About Bourne Youth Council
Our History
Founded in 1994, Bourne Youth Councils mission was to increase community involvement and sought ways to help youth in the community by providing resources and/or funding to accomplish goals and activities. The organization successfully sustained the mission for 26 years. Due to the pandemic, and the unfortunate passing of two key members, BYC was set to dissolve at the end of the year. It is with great pleasure, and excitement to announce, that in memory of its founding, and former members, Bourne Youth Council relaunched in 2023!! With the mission and goals aligning, there will be minimal changes to the structure of BYC, inc. While we continue to transfer everything over, I’d like to spend the next few weeks sharing with you, (and hearing from you) the history of this incredible, selfless organization. We look forward to continuing community engagement and have some great ideas in mind.
Bourne Youth Councils Mission Statement
BYC non-profit organizations mission is to increase public involvement and a sense of community by coordinating, promoting, and developing constructive, effective, activities for the community of Bourne. By bringing our community together, using the abilities of its residents and sharing its resources, we may help our youth live healthier, safer and more responsible lives.
We wish to provide a forum for projects and resources by coordinating clubs, sports, arts and culture, entertainment, scholarship, and community services. The council shall identify resources and solicit volunteers from the community to make functional these plans, projects and activities.
We wish to support and facilitate the establishment of an effective police-youth communication and accountability system. We shall support, introduce, and facilitate alternative intervention programs for violence prevention and for our youth of high risk. We wish to continue to make Bourne a safe and healthy place in which to work, go to school, raise children, and retire.
